Ally Goes to Albany

Last Wednesday, many students and staff from community programs throughout New York City traveled to Albany. Albany is the capital of New York State, and it’s where many important decisions are made about giving money to programs like ours.

One University Settlement student who went talked to us about her experience. Her name is Juan Juan – her English name is Ally. Watch the video below:

Ally, thank you for supporting our program and bringring our voice to Albany.

  2. Dwain Reeves says:

    It must be noted:

Ally has been in the United States for a little under three years. She has been a student almost since her arrival in the United States. If it weren’t for University Settlement she wouldn’t have been able to afford to learn English in a structured enviroment. The same is true of all of her classmates. Her English has improved greatly because of the chance that she has had to go to school.

We both thank University Settlement for this opportunity.

    Ally is my wife.

I’m so proud of Ally and all the progress she’s been making every year! She’s setting a great example for her classmates by advocating against budget cuts. I’m so glad that she and our other students were able to voice what matters to them to elected officials up in Albany!
